Dictatorship of the Witch Doctor

Scientists have to beg witch doctors for permission to do science.  The Guardian writes about an interesting advance in cloning.  They have inserted human DNA into a cow egg cell.

So what’s bad about this?

Cardinal Keith O’Brien used his Easter sermon to denounce what he called experiments of “Frankenstein proportion” and called the bill a “monstrous attack on human rights, human dignity and human life”.

Oh my god!  Grab the guns and get these bad men!  Their experiments are of monstrous proportions, and they are attacking human “rights” in the collective, and human life as such!  And, don’t forget, they are also attacking dignity herself!

But don’t worry.  The scientists

gained permission in January from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA)

Holy moral inversion, Batman!  Scientists need the permission of bureaucrats and medieval witch doctors in order to do their work.  Or else, what?  Are they to be burned at the stake for heresy?

Let’s work towards a world in which scientists need no permissions, and dark age mystics have no legal authority.  Or better yet, a world in which dark age mystics have no followers.  A world with a rational culture.
